TGIF! Today at the Outlawz Fridays Alcohol Markers Challenge our theme is Awareness. While there are many Awareness campaigns out there, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Even the NFL teams are supporting this campaign with the wearing of pink shoes, gloves, towels, etc. Thankfully, my immediate family has good breast health. However, a dear friend of mine was diagnosed last year, and this summer WON a long battle with this horrible disease. Through it all...the chemo, the radiation, the surgeries, the reconstruction...she remained positive and courageous. And most importantly she kept her faith. So, Kara, my dear friend, this card is a tribute to you (even though you said you didn't want any "pink" stuff or inspirational cards). So happy you are still in this world with us! By your actions, you are a true testament to Faith.
This stunning image is from Ike's World (Suzy offered it as a freebie to play in her challenge). I'm still in awe of the strength and beauty in this image. To stay away from the "girlie" pink that Kara so detests, I went for the hot pink in the Lola & Luca paper pack from The Paper Studio. No embellishments were needed. I added the word Faith and the card was complete.
Please join Carla, Dawn, Jen, Linda, Penny and me over at the Outlawz for this week's challenge, and support your chosen Awareness campaign!
Have a fabulous weekend, and I'll see you Sunday with a surprise post!
What a beautiful tribute to your friend. I love that you avoided the traditional pink in honour of her wishes to avoid those colours. I am sorry though that you lost such an incredible friend. I'm sure she is looking down on you and this card in found memory of the times you shared together.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your talents with us this fortnight over at Ike's World Challenges. Good luck!

Tress, I am sooooooo sorry. It was brought to my attention that I misread your post and I just feel so awful. My only excuse is that I left the message at 6:00 in the morning long past when I should have been in bed. So let's try this again...
DeleteWhat a beautiful tribute to your friend. I love that you avoided the traditional pink in honour of her wishes to avoid those colours. I am so glad that Kara was one of the fortunate ones and has WON the battle (Lord how did I miss that) and is now in remission. I hope that she never has to see a recurrence of this terrible disease again in her lifetime. You have created such a beautiful tribute to the strength and faith she showed throughout her battle. I am really happy that you shared this card with us over at IWC.
I hope that you can forgive my blunder.
Sincerely,
Lisa D.
Thank you Lisa! No need to apologize. I've made a few boo-boos reading posts. :-)

Have a wonderful weekend!
Hi Tress, I have to tell you that I came across your card at lunchtime on my Nook, and I know that I wanted to comment, but I also knew it wouldn't be a quick one so I have waited all day to come back and tell you what I think of this card. :O) First let me just say that I am very happy that your friend has been able to survive this terrible disease. Your are such a wonderful person to make her such a beautiful card. I think that this image is just fantastic and I love the way that you have put it together with THE PERFECT PAPER. Truly your coloring and design is just perfect with it. It allows the image to speak for itself while remaining so elegant. I just can't express to you just how much I love it. My sister-in-law (that I loved just as much as I do my Husband) didn't survive Breast Cancer, but I tell you she was such a fantastic person and I thank God every day for the time he gave me to have her in my life. Anyway, I could go on and one and I really just wanted to tell you that I LOVE this and I am sure that your friend does as well. You have done a wonderful job on this. Thanks for sharing it and for sharing your friends story. Have a great weekend. Hugs Lisa
ReplyDeleteLisa, thank you so very much! You have no idea how much your words mean to me, especially today. They tug at my heart and remind me that for every horrible, negative person there are more gems like you who lift others' spirits and leave a path of good will. I am truly sorry for the loss of your sister-in-law, but I am sure she is smiling down from heaven today, so very proud of her sister-in-law for being a ray of sunshine.
DeleteLove the strong colours of your card Tress, I was just reading your comment under your post re what you were told by an artist, sorry can't agree. I believe everyone is an artist, art comes from the soul, like music. Not everybody may like what you create but that is irrelevant - if we all liked the same thing what a boring old world this would be . Keep smiling and keep creating :) Good luck in the IKEsWORLD challenge. Hugs Jane IKEsWORLD DT
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear your friend has won her battle, and your tribute card is beautiful. Thanks for sharing with us at IKE'sWORLD challenges :)
ReplyDeleteWow, gorgeous colors and card!
ReplyDeleteDear Dear Tress, You, wonderful friend of Kara's are a bless-ed gift! She is so fortunate to have someone like you in her life. It is people like you that make this world a better place to live in, make battles such as cancer an easier one to bear and make friendships the light of a person's life! Kara's positivity I am sure was due, in part, to the individuals she had in her corner rooting for her success, not moping about her illness. It is so hard to remain positive in the face of such drastic news and to have people who are kind, giving and loving in Spirit makes all the difference in the world. That you have dedicated your entire post and your art to your friend is such a testament to who "you" are as a person...what a true and loving creative soul! Your art is just brilliant. When I first saw it I went "ahhhhh". It was/is lovely to see this card done up in alternative colors. The lime green speaks life to me some how. It represents exactly what I read in your story. Interesting eh? I could go on and on because your post and your art, and your dedication to Ike (again, a selfless testimony to who you are to give credit to others) really struck me as something very special. So wonder womyn, have a great week and just thanks for being "you!" and coming to Ike's World Challenge. You have touched us all. Soulfully Yours, Samara DT Ike's World Challenge
